How to apply: Students graduated in Italy

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Academic curriculum

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biotechnology or related life science programmes awarded by an Italian University.

⇒ Students must have a good knowledge of basic Biology topics with particular attention to Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Genetics, Microbiology and Molecular Biology.

 

Knowledge of the English language

Knowledge of English should correspond to at least B2 level of the Common European Framework (CEF). The knowledge of the English language will be verified during the admission test. Students graduated from an Italian University and who were eligible for direct enrollment (without admission test) will demonstrate their knowledge of the English language during the academic year with the passing of the first exam. The English language proficiency certificate is not required.

 

Students graduated in an Italian University must follow this procedure.

Application and enrollment procedures for students who graduated or are about to graduate in Italy are:

A. Students holding a Bachelor’s degree in Biology (L13 DM 270/2004 or class 12 DM 509/1999) or Biotechnology (L2 DM 270/2004 or class 1 DM 509/1999) from an Italian University with a score ≥ 99/110 can enroll directly without admission test (direct enrollment). The exact beginning and end dates for this procedure will be published on this page.

B. Students holding a Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Biotechnology from an Italian University with a score < 99/110 have to pass an admission test.

C. Students enrolled in the third year of a Bachelor’s degree course in Biology or Biotechnology (academic year 2020/2021) that will graduate after October 15 and own at least 150 cfu (on the day of the admission test) have to pass an admission test.

D. Students holding a Bachelor’s degree in disciplines other than Biology or Biotechnology from an Italian University have to pass a evaluation of qualification and admission test. These students have to contact the Coordinator of the Master Degree Programme by sending an email to mbg@unipv.it . The exact deadline will be published on this page. These students will receive an email notifying whether their academic curriculum is suitable for the Master Degree Programme and will be invited to take the admission exam.

E. Students enrolled in the third year of a Bachelor’s degree course who are about to graduate in disciplines other than Biology or Biotechnology have to pass a evaluation of qualification and admission test. These students have to contact the Coordinator of the Master Degree Programme by sending an email to mbg@unipv.it . The exact deadline will be published on this page. These students will receive an email notifying whether their academic curriculum is suitable for the Master Degree Programme and will be invited to take the admission exam.

The application for evaluation of qualification and admission test requires the payment of a 35 € fee.

Please note: students with European citizenship can apply following the procedure described in this. European students following this procedure are required to take the admission exam like in cases D or E.

STEP BY STEP PROCEDURE

Step 1: Evaluation of Academic Qualification

Students who are required to take the evaluation of academic qualifications (only cases D – E in the previous paragraph) have to contact the Coordinator of the Master Degree Programme by sending an email to mbg@unipv.it . The exact deadline is published on this page (click)These students will receive an email notifying whether their academic curriculum is suitable for the Master Degree Programme and will be invited to take the admission exam (See the following section to register for the admission exam).

 

Step 2: Admission exam

The admission exam for students graduated in Italy will take place on September 20. Students who are required to take and pass the admission test (see the entry requirements and the picture, cases B – C), and those who requested the the evaluation of academic qualifications and have been invited to take the admission exam (cases D – E), have to register for the exam. The exact beginning and end dates for this procedure will be published on this page. The procedure is described at this page, section 3a. After logging in into their personal area, students must enter into section Menu (right corner) > Admissions > Evaluation Test (if the Italian language is set, then it is Menu > Segreteria > Test di Valutazione). During the procedure, students must register for this exam “CONCORSO PER L’AMMISSIONE AL PRIMO ANNO DEL CORSO DI LAUREA MAGISTRALE IN MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AND GENETICS”. We must receive the application by September 13 at 23.59

Admission exams will be carried out via video conference on September 20, the precise date has been published also on this website (click). Each student will receive an email containing the schedule of the admission exam and the contact address of the Evaluation Committee. The test will be an oral exam in English concerning basic concepts in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Genetics, Microbiology and Molecular Biology.

The exam may have one of the following outcomes:

  1. unconditional admission to the Master’s degree course;
  2. admission to the Master’s degree, with a list of the examinations to be passed in order to make up any credit deficits;
  3. non-admission to the Master’s degree due to insufficient knowledge of basic Biology concepts.

Step 3: Enrollment

Students who are eligible for direct enrollment or successfully passed the admission test (if required) have to submit electronically their enrollment application. Applications for regular enrollment must be sent by October 15. To enroll, students eligible for direct enrollment must first register at this page, students who successfully passed the admission test already carried out the registration. Then, students eligible for direct enrollment and students who successfully passed the admission test must login in their reserved area, then click Menu (right corner) > Segreteria > Immatricolazione.

Late enrollments after October 15 will also be accepted upon the payment of an additional fee (82€).

Conditional Enrollment

Students who passed the admission test and will graduate after October 15, 2021, can enroll under “conditional enrollment”. These students have to obtain their degree by March 31, 2022. See this page, section 5.
