To get the students to self autonomy in understanding the architecture of genetic circuits controlling the ecological developmental biology (ECO _ EVO _ DEVO).
Mechanisms of sex determination. Gonad development and sexual phenotype. The development of germ cells: spermatogenesis and oogenesis. Stem cells. Stemness genes. Genetic reprogramming. Cloning: therapeutic and reproductive options. Fertilisation. Creating multicellularity: patterns of embryonic cleavage. Patterning of the body plan: setting up the body axes; origin and specification of the germ layers; general features of gastrulation. Pattern formation. Determination by cytoplasmic specification. Progressive determination. Genomic equivalence and differential gene expression.
Several classic textbook (i.e. Gilbert) are usefull to consult but my suggestion is to daily open the main journals of the Developmental Biology community to get access to the editorials and the hot papers.
